Curious about EMDR Therapy?

Are you feeling trapped by the effects of past trauma on your present life? Is your past causing distress and emotional pain? Our skilled EMDR therapists near you can guide you through a gentle process that helps desensitize traumatic memories, allowing you to heal and become more whole.

what is emdr therapy?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals cope with and process distressing memories, especially those related to traumatic experiences. During EMDR, a trained therapist guides the person to recall troubling memories while using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory cues. This process helps the brain reprocess memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing the person to develop healthier responses to those past events.

about emdr

EMDR has shown promising results in treating conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and phobias, making it an extremely effective and valuable therapeutic approach for emotional healing and well-being. The core idea behind EMDR is that distressing or traumatic experiences can get "stuck" in the brain, causing ongoing emotional, psychological distress or unhelpful character traits. EMDR helps the brain “unstick” and reorganize these memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity, enabling the individual to heal from the negative effects of the past. EMDR is not hypnosis, does not use electroshock treatments, nor does it cause a person to forget memories.

It has gained recognition as an evidence-based therapy by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
