Child Therapy - Therapy for Them

Is your child struggling with emotional or behavioral challenges, leaving you feeling unsure of how to best support them? Child therapy can offer a safe and playful environment where your child can engage in age-appropriate activities and express their feelings, helping them to develop coping skills, build self-confidence, and foster emotional resilience.

what is child therapy?

Child therapy is unique in the sense that it caters to the individual developmental needs of the child. Child therapy helps children to express themselves, try different solutions and learn more effective coping methods and strategies. All of this is done in a way that builds on their strengths, namely imagination, creativity and resilience.

about child therapy

Children tend to lack the emotional language that adults have and, therefore, are not able to express themselves verbally as adults, or even some teens, are able to. As such, therapy with children often seeks to communicate through mediums other than talk, such as play or art. This, in combination with creating a safe environment for the child, and working with parents to develop sound parenting strategies often yield positive results in the child’s overall mental health.

Play therapy differs from regular play in the sense that it provides a psychologically safe distance from the child’s problems and allows for the expression of thoughts and feelings, that are encouraged and received by the therapist. Play therapy can help children address and resolve their own problems, learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behaviors, and develop problem-solving skills.

Our therapist works to develop a therapeutic experience depending on your child’s particular needs. Often this includes facilitating an environment where children are able to “play out” their thoughts and feelings. Just as adults often direct a conversation when discussing their own issues or experiences, children also need to direct what they express and how they express it. Play therapy and Art therapy in particular offer the child this necessary freedom.
